Pointe Shoe Project
Charlotte Youth Ballet has been committed to community outreach since its founding more than 40 years ago. Our outreach efforts include public and private performances by our dancers, as well as providing free tickets for students from Title I schools to attend our special school and preview performances. Through these experiences, children have the opportunity to experience the art of storytelling through dance set to classical music—many for the very first time.
To further support these efforts, CYB created the Pointe Shoe Project.
Using retired pointe shoes, artists of all skill levels transform them into unique works of art through painting, decorating, and other creative techniques. These pieces are sold during our performances, and participating artists are recognized in our playbills distributed to audience members at each show.
Artists are welcome to request as many pointe shoes as needed, and creativity is highly encouraged. Pinterest is a great source of inspiration and ideas.
If you are interested in contributing a decorated shoe, please contact cyb@charlotteyouthballet.org.
